Milk Bar and pizza chain move forward with joint venture in Massachusetts

New York-based Milk Bar and Washington, D.C.-based pizza chain &pizza announced in July 2017 that they planned to team up for a joint pizza venture called ‘Milk &pizza’ at Cambridge, Massachusett’s Harvard Square.

Now, the Cambridge Zoning Board of Appeals has finally approved the companies' special permit, meaning they can move forward with the project.

A rep for &pizza released the following statement regarding the news:

"We’re pleased with the outcome of last night's hearing and are excited to bring the first &pizza x Milk Bar concept to Harvard Square. We will continue to be conscientious in our approach to what we can offer the square to add to its rich cultural identity.

The pizza shop meets bakery concept has aspirations to not only increase the variety of our offerings and enhance our experience, but also to provide a concept that caters to what the community needs — a positive, inclusive gathering place for all citizens."

Both companies are excited about the news and the potential for their partnership in Cambridge.

“We’ve listened to the community and heard loud and clear that they’re looking for more than just another pizza shop—they want a neighborhood partner,” said &pizza co-founder and CEO Michael Lastoria. “&pizza stands for connection, inclusion and unity, and joining forces with Milk Bar is a perfect example of how we will bring those values directly to Cambridge.”

“The restaurants and cafes in Harvard Square help fuel some of the most brilliant and innovative minds in the world, and I’m so excited for Milk Bar to be part of this community,” Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi added.
