The U.S. Pizza Team, in preparation for the 2018 World Pizza Championship in Parma, Italy, will hold its West Coast Pizza Trials on August 8 in Oceanside, California.

Taking place at Dominic’s Italian Restaurant, the trials will feature the first 20 pizza chefs to register. Competitors will have to use only red sauce and must choose two toppings from a list of nine. They will provide their own dough, cheese, and spices.

Each contestant will make two pies, one for the judges and one for the crowd. All competitors will be judged on toppings, crust, appearance, creativity, and overall taste and aroma.

Participants will be judged by culinary professionals based on the aforementioned criteria. Once the winners are determined, contestants will show off their talents in an Iron Chef-style competition. They will create a pizza using a secret ingredient decided by Dominic’s Italian Restaurant.

A limited number of tickets to this event are available, with a portion of the proceeds going to a local charity. More information on the trials can be found here.
