Mix Bakeshop in Reno, Nevada is helping to feed the needy in its community this winter and beyond.

As part of its “Pie it Forward” program, the pie shop has partnered with Volunteers of America to donate ten pies per month to the family shelter. Along with that, customers are encouraged to come into the shop and purchase additional pies to be donated.

Starting January 1, customers can visit Mix Bakeshop to sign a special pie form and purchase one of these desserts for a hungry family.

“Everybody loves pie, so to be able to give them a feeling of home for those in a shelter, seemed like a really good fit,” says Mix Bakeshop co-owner Kris Daters.

The pies make a great difference in peoples’ lives, according to Volunteers of America spokesperson Linda Grace. “Just a special treat means the world to them. It just brings a little normalcy to their daily lives,” she says.
