Starbucks locations in South Florida are the chain’s first to offer an allergy-friendly product, with the introduction of vegan passionfruit cupcakes.

The new gluten-free, fruit-based cupcake comes courtesy of a partnership with Miami’s Bunnie Cakes. The bakery will supply 13 Starbucks stores in the South Florida area.

“Sebastian [Ghiragossian, Bunnie Cakes co-owner and general manager] and I are extremely happy and proud of this partnership, having Starbucks reach out to us and choosing our business as the only local partner in Miami is huge for us," says Bunnie Cakes co-owner Mariana Cortez.

"Starting this company from having nothing, only one mixer, an idea and a few utensils to partnering with Starbucks to supply 13 stores daily is a dream come true. We have worked very hard every day with our team, it’s been a collective effort that took us to this point. We are excited, happy and grateful for the big opportunities that are ahead of us.”

Starbucks is testing the vegan passionfruit cupcake at the 13 South Florida locations, and if successful, will introduce the product to more stores in the future.

In 2016, Bunnie Cakes was named as Miami's Best Cupcake by Miami New Times.
