On Tuesday, October 17, a group of bakers from Angel Food Bakery in Minneapolis, Minnesota made an attempt at breaking the Guiness World Record for tallest donut stack.

The group began its mission at 1 p.m. CST inside the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The airport is expecting an extra 40,000 air travelers due to MEA weekend (short for Minnesota Educator Academy), the annual teachers’ union conference.

The airport is holding a series of events to alleviate some of the stress caused by the increased number of people inside the airport. These activities are based around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education.

Angel Food Bakery was looking to break the previous world record of 110.5 cm.

Fortunately, the donuts will not go to waste. The stacking was done under sanitary conditions, allowing the 1,300 donuts to be donated to to nonprofit meal program Loaves & Fishes.
