Elenis Nut Free
In response to heightened concern about food allergies, Eleni Gianopulos has decided to take her popular New York City bakery, Eleni's New York, completely nut-free.
While the month of May is designated for asthma and allergy awareness, the week of May 8-14 (Food Allergy Awareness Week) is specifically set aside for those with food allergies. The Empire State Building and other buildings across the country will be lighting up in teal to help shine a light on such an important conversation.
Eleni explains why she chose to go nut-free.
"As a mother of two school-aged children, I know that having access to nut-free desserts is of paramount importance. I have many friends whose children are afflicted by nut allergies. In addition, many of Eleni’s loyal customers have told me that having access to nut-free treats is extremely important to them. As both a mother and a businesswoman who cares deeply about her family, friends, community and customers, it was imperative to me that I take the necessary steps to make sure that my business was doing its part to provide baked goods that could be enjoyed by all."
Since 1997, Eleni's New York has been located at Manhattan's iconic Chelsea Market, later followed by an expansive website, where her custom "Conversation Cookies" and other treats are sold around the world. Today, Eleni's custom cookie creations are a favorite of celebrities, luxury brands, Fortune 500 companies and cookie lovers alike.
In addition to the Chelsea Market store and website, Eleni's signature cookies can be found in several retailers located across the U.S. and Canada, including Whole Foods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate & Barrel and others.
