Icing Smiles provides custom cakes to bring smiles to medical children.

Icing Smiles, a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes to families impacted by the critical illness of a child, with the goal of providing a temporary escape from worry and creating positive memories during a difficult time, will host the 2nd annual Chicago Buttercream Ball on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at The James Hotel Chicago, supported by Nielsen-Massey Vanillas.

Cakes from Icing Smiles are provided to both medical children and siblings, created to match a theme chosen by the family. With over 11,000 cakes delivered to date, Icing Smiles relies on a generous team of volunteer bakers and cake artists around the country to fulfill this mission.

“As a father, Icing Smiles’ mission to deliver a moment of respite from the daily routine of an ill child or sibling by providing a beautiful, flavorful work of art at no cost to the family rang true to me,” says Matt Nielsen, COO of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, Inc. “What this organization does is no small thing, reminding us of the joy that food, and especially cake, brings to people and the opportunity it provides to celebrate someone. It’s a simple act of kindness that has a lasting impact.”

The 2016 Nielsen-Massey Buttercream Ball in Chicago will highlight live entertainment by dueling piano sensations Felix and Fingers and a live cake demonstration. The high-energy, interactive evening will feature gourmet savories prepared by David Burke’s Primehouse, a delicious dessert buffet and signature cocktail recipes from Nielsen-Massey and CH Distillery for an evening that is both delicious and fun.

“Icing Smiles brings together my passion for service to families affected by childhood illness with the ability to turn cake and icing into smiles and joy,” says Tracy Quisenberry, Icing Smiles Founder and Executive Director. “It is only with the hard work of our volunteers and the support of our generous sponsors, such as our 2016 Buttercream Ball Title Sponsor Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, that we have been able to deliver over 11,000 smiles – and counting!”
