Rosemary Leicht of Bethel, Ohio, was named the grand prize winner of the 2013 National Festival of Breads bread baking competition sponsored by King Arthur Flour, Fleischmann’s Yeast and the Kansas Wheat Commission. Ms. Leicht’s Onion Parmesan Cracker Bread was selected from among eight finalists at the competition held June 22 in Manhattan.

For winning the contest, Leicht will receive an all-expenses paid trip to King Arthur Flour in Norwich, VT, a year’s supply of yeast from Fleischmann’s Yeast and $2,000 in cash.

The panel of four judges included Kristina Vanni, Cooking Contest Central; Jane Marshall, Kansas State University College of Human Ecology; Allison Fishman-Task, Yahoo.com’s “Blue Ribbon Hunter”; and Aaron Clanton, baking curriculum manager at AIB International. Judging was based on taste, originality, ease of preparation, healthfulness and appearance.

The judges said Ms. Leicht’s bread was “unique, fun and delicious. Its crispiness allows families and friends to truly ‘break bread together.’”
