The Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health (TMC) presents the 8th Annual “Let Them Eat Cake!” event on Saturday, May 18 from 7:30-10:00 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Opera. Bakers and cake decorators from the Pittsburgh will be submitting their cakes to be rated by a panel of expert judges.  Winners will receive gift certificates from Whole Foods and handcrafted glass plates from Riverside Design and will be announced in local media outlets. Attendees will vote for the People’s Choice Awards for Best Taste and Decorated Cakes.

The theme for the 2013 Let Them Eat Cake! event is "5001: A Baby Odyssey” in celebration of the growth of our center and the arrival of our 5,000th baby in mid-2013. Entrants are asked to submit cakes that are inspired by visions of the future and growth. For Decorated Cakes, moving parts will be permitted for the first time in the history of the event. For Taste Cakes, entrants are encouraged to use innovative and futuristic baking techniques and ingredients.

The main event includes appetizers, open wine/beer bar and champagne tasting, musical entertainment by DJ Zombo, and a futuristic photo booth.  A VIP reception immediately before the main event will feature hors d’oeuvres, espresso and coffee bar, a specialty cocktail and musical entertainment.  Event honorary committee members include Deb Acklin of WQED, Cathy Raphael and Cecile Springer. UPMC Mercy is the event’s generous “Wedding Cake” level sponsor. WQED is the media sponsor.
